Hikifuda: Auspicious advertising handbills

Hikifuda are the precursors to modern advertising flyers and leaflets, which became widely produced from the Edo period onwards. Shop names and products were added to the blank spaces of illustrated sheets before being distributed. This section introduces examples from the hikifuda sample books featuring auspicious symbols such as the Seven Lucky Gods and cranes.
