The Japanese National Bibliography (JNB)

The Japanese National Bibliography (JNB) comprises standard bibliographic data for Japanese publications acquired via the legal deposit system as well as Japanese publications and foreign publications in Japanese acquired through donation, purchase, or other means.

The JNB includes print publications and packaged digital publications such as CDs and DVDs published in Japan as well as foreign publications in Japanese. Cataloging is usually completed within one month of acquisition. More than 95% of the printed monographs available commercially in Japan are recorded.

Also included are numerous publications with limited public circulation from national and municipal governments.

Bibliographic data for online publications acquired by the National Diet Library (NDL) since July 1, 2013, is available from the page "全国書誌（電子書籍・電子雑誌編） (Japanese National Bibliography Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals)" (in Japanese). The NDL acquires domestic Japanese online publications.

Newly arrived (in-process) records become searchable in Web Japanese National Bibliography about four days after acquisition, not including materials in Asian languages and maps.

JNB Services via Web Services

Web Japanese National Bibliography (Web JNB)

• Web JNB (in Japanese) allows you to search and download JNB data and newly arrived (in-process) bibliographic data, by bibliography completion date, material category (book/serials, etc.), ISBN, ISSN, author, keyword, etc.
• Downloadable data formats are MARC, MARC tag, DC-NDL(RDF), TSV, JSON and Bibtex.
• All of the above data formats, including MARC format and MARC tag format, can be downloaded one by one from the bibliography details screen and as multiple items at once from the search results list screen.
• JNB data is also available in NDL Search.

Application Programming Interfaces (API) via NDL Search

Application Programming Interfaces for search and acquisition of NDL Search metadata are available. Use the appropriate "data provider ID (DPID)" to specify metadata groups.

JNB Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals

JNB Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals are bibliographic data for e-books and e-periodicals acquired by NDL. You can download this data from the following web services and websites.

Web Japanese National Bibliography Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals

• Web Japanese National Bibliography Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals allows you to search and download JNB records of e-books and e-periodicals data, by record release date, title, author, published date etc.
• Downloadable data formats are TSV, DC-NDL(RDF), JSON and Bibtex.
• All of the above data formats can be downloaded one by one from the bibliography details screen and as multiple items at once from the search results list screen.

JAPAN/MARC

• JAPAN/MARC is a machine-readable version of the Japanese National Bibliography and name authority data. Newly cataloged, corrected, or deleted records are updated weekly and available at "JAPAN/MARCデータ（毎週更新） (JAPAN/MARC Weekly Update)" (in Japanese).
• Please refer to "JAPAN/MARC Manual and Format" for details on the data format and provided elements.
