The National Diet Library has made its bibliographic data, authority data and Japanese Periodicals Index data available online via a number of services.

Bibliographic Data Services

NDL bibliographic data, authority data and Japanese Periodicals Index data are available online via the following web services.

NDL Search

• The NDL Search permits integrated searching of the catalogs and digital archives of libraries, archives, museums, academic institutes, and the National Diet Library.
• NDL bibliographic data and Japanese Periodicals Index data are available.
• The interface is available in Japanese and English.
• You can download bibliographic data in MARC format, MARC tag format, DC-NDL (RDF) format, TSV format, JSON format and Bibtex format.

Web Japanese National Bibliography (Web JNB)

• You can search and download Japanese National Bibliographic data and newly arrived (in-process) bibliographic data (in Japanese).
• You can search by bibliography completion date, material type, keyword, title, etc.
• The download function is the same as for NDL Search.
• In addition, the following web services for searching and downloading specific bibliographic data are available (in Japanese).

JAPAN/MARCデータ (毎週更新) (JAPAN/MARC Weekly Update)

• "JAPAN/MARCデータ (毎週更新) (JAPAN/MARC Weekly Update)" (in Japanese) provides newly cataloged, corrected, or deleted JAPAN/MARC records weekly. For details of JAPAN/MARC, please see "The Japanese National Bibliography (JNB) > JAPAN/MARC".

全国書誌 (電子書籍・電子雑誌編) (Japanese National Bibliography Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals)

• "全国書誌 (電子書籍・電子雑誌編) (JNB Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals)" (in Japanese) provides bibliographic data for e-books and e-periodicals via the web service and TSV format files uploaded on the NDL’s web site.

雑誌記事索引データ (Japanese Periodicals Index Data)

Japanese National Bibliography and JAPAN/MARC

The Japanese National Bibliography comprises standard bibliographic data for Japanese publications acquired via the legal deposit system as well as Japanese publications and foreign publications in Japanese acquired through donation, purchase, or other means.
JAPAN/MARC is a machine-readable version of Japanese National Bibliography and name authority data. For details, please see "The Japanese National Bibliography (JNB) > JAPAN/MARC".

Standards for bibliographic data

The NDL establishes standards for bibliographic data according to the features of the material and the purpose of use, to promptly create and provide accurate data on its vast collections.
Standards for bibliographic data define how completely and with what degree of verification catalog records are produced in NDL Collections. For further information, please see "書誌データ水準 (Standards for bibliographic data)" (in Japanese).

International Cooperation

• WorldCat
  The NDL collaborates with the OCLC (OCLC, Inc.), to make JAPAN/MARC records and Japanese Periodical Index data available via WorldCat, a bibliographic database operated and maintained by the OCLC.
• Virtual International Authority File (VIAF)
  The NDL has been a member of the Virtual International Authority File (VIAF) since October 1, 2012 and provides authority data for personal names, corporate names, family names, uniform titles, works and place names to the VIAF database. Web NDL Authorities exchanges links with VIAF.
