Kanazawa

The capital of Ishikawa Prefecture. The castle town of the Maeda family of the Kaga Domain, which was known as "Kaga Hyakumangoku" (hyakumangoku=the amount of rice consumed by one million people in one year), still remains to this day. Kenrokuen Garden, one of the three greatest gardens in Japan, is designated as a National Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Many buildings such as Ishikawa Gate, Sanjikken Nagaya, the Tsurumaru Storehouse of Kanazawa Castle, and Daijyoji Temple are designated as Important Cultural Properties.
