Iki islands
The Iki Islands refers to the main Iki Island and numerous surrounding small islands facing the Genkai Sea. The Iki Islands appear in the Chinese history book Sangokushi (Sanguozhi) in “Gishiwajinden" (literally, “an account of the Wa in the history of the Wei Dynasty), a geography of Japanese people, as Ikikoku. The castle was built by the Matsuura Party around the 16th century, and was used by TOYOTOMI Hideyoshi when he invaded Korea. After the Meiji period, whaling became popular, and people came from all over Kyushu and western Japan to hunt whales.
