Ukiyo-e depictions of railways

Japan's first railway opened on October 14, 1872 (Meiji 5), between Shimbashi and Yokohama. In the years immediately before and after its opening, many of the era's leading ukiyo-e artists produced scenes featuring railways, including Shimbashi Station.
