Chigusa no hana (A thousand varieties of flowers)

This is an illustrated book of flowers by KONO Bairei (1844–1895), a Kyoto-based Japanese-style painter. The work comprises four volumes containing two hundred plates, each accompanied by explanatory notes on the shapes of the flowers and leaves. The table of contents at the beginning of Volumes 1 and 2 credits YAMAMOTO Akio (Keigu), an herbalist active in Kyoto, as the reviewer. Published in 1890–91 (Meiji 23–24).
