Description

Textile artist and researcher. The son of TATSUMURA Sobei, a wealthy merchant in Osaka. Heizo studied Nishijin textiles and Hakata textiles while working as an apprentice at a kimono fabric business at the age of 17. In 1905, he established Tatsumura Seishokujo in Nishijin as a textile manufacturer and produced art textiles such as Gobelins tapestries, Takanami-ori and Kokechi-ori. Researched ancient fabrics and restored antique textiles at Shosoin as well as antique clothes. He won many awards and formed the foundation for textiles to be recognized as art. In 1958, he received the Medal with Purple Ribbon.
