* A text file of these directions can be downloaded at the end of this page.

Directions for walking to Exit 2 of Nagatacho Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line, Hanzomon Line, and Namboku Line from the NDL are as follow.
The distance is about 300 meters and takes approximately 15 minutes on foot.
With your back to the automatic doors at the visitors' entrance to the Annex, your destination is located approximately at the 2 o'clock position, but you will have to navigate several turns and use a crosswalk with traffic signals along the way.
The sidewalk includes braille blocks almost everywhere along the route.
The directions given below follow the braille blocks and use clock positions.

  1. With your back to the automatic doors at the entrance of the Annex, proceed forward about 4 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach another set of automatic doors.
(Note: There are no braille blocks between those two automatic doors.)
  2. Exit the automatic doors and you will be outside. Proceed forward about 4 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach a turn toward 3 o'clock.
  3. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk about 23 meters until you reach another 9 o'clock turn.
(Note: There is a ceiling after about 21 meters in the 3 o'clock direction.)
  4. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk about 8 meters until you reach the automatic doors. Braille blocks are discontinued about 1 meter before and after the automatic doors. Enter through the automatic doors and you will be inside the building.
  5. Proceed forward about 15 meters until you reach the second set of automatic doors. Exit the automatic doors and you will be outside.
(Note: There are two intersections heading in the 3 o'clock direction along the way.)
  6. With your back to the automatic doors, proceed forward about 60 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach stairs going up with a handrail. The handrail is about 1 meter on your left if you have walked along the braille blocks.
(Note: The ceiling continues almost until you reach the stairs. About 2 meters after the ceiling disappears, you will reach the stairs. On the way, in about 10 meters, there is an intersection heading in the 9 o'clock direction.)
  7. Proceed up the stairs 14 steps until you reach the T-shaped braille blocks. Continue forward about 4 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach more T-shaped braille blocks. The gate of the National Diet Library is located here. Braille blocks are discontinued about 1 meter before and after the gate.
  8. Proceed forward about 1 meter in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach braille blocks. Continue forward about 2 meters until you reach a 3 o'clock turn.
  9. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk about 5 meters until you reach T-shaped braille blocks.
  10. At the T-shaped braille blocks, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk about 3 meters until you reach more T-shaped braille blocks.
  11. At the T-shaped braille blocks, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk forward down a gentle downhill slope for about 40 meters until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 3 o'clock directions.
(Note: On the way, in about 20 meters, there is an intersection heading in the 9 o'clock direction.)
(Caution: If you reach the T-shaped braille blocks after passing the intersection heading in the 12 o'clock direction, you have traveled too far. Do not proceed beyond this point as it is an entrance/exit for cars. At the T-shaped braille blocks, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and you will come to a street light pole and a signboard.)
  12. At the intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk about 4 meters until you reach a 9 o'clock turn.
  13. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk about 25 meters until you reach another 9 o'clock turn.
(Note: On the way, in about 15 meters, there is an intersection heading in the 3 o'clock direction to the South Entrance of the NDL.)
  14. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk about 4 meters until you reach T-shaped braille blocks.
  15. At the T-shaped braille blocks, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk about 65 meters until you reach a 2 o'clock turn.
(Note: On the way, in about 30 meters, there is an intersection heading in the 3 o'clock direction.)
  16. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 2 o'clock direction and walk about 10 meters until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 10 o'clock directions.
(Note: On the way, in about 1 meter, there is an intersection heading in the 8 o'clock direction to a crosswalk which you do not want to use.)
  17. At the intersection, turn in the 10 o'clock direction and walk about 3 meters until you reach a crosswalk with traffic signals. The name of the crossroads is Kokkai Toshokan Mae ('In front of the National Diet Library').
(Note: The traffic signal of the crosswalk is acoustic and sounds like the call of a cuckoo when it is safe to cross.)
  18. Braille blocks are laid out in the center of the crosswalk. Follow those braille blocks for about 13 meters until you reach a sidewalk.
  19. Proceed forward about 5 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach an intersection branching in the 4 and 10 o'clock directions.
  20. At the intersection, turn in the 10 o'clock direction and walk about 10 meters until you reach a 2 o'clock turn.
(Note: On the way, in about 4 meters, there is an intersection heading in the 10 o'clock direction to a crosswalk which you do not want to use.)
  21. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 2 o'clock direction and walk about 4 meters until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 3 o'clock directions.
  22. At the intersection, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk about 2 meters until you reach T-shaped braille blocks.
  23. Braille blocks are discontinued at this point. Proceed forward about 1 meter in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach dotted braille blocks running left to right. These dotted braille blocks are indicating that you have reached Exit 2 and are entering Nagatacho Station.
(Caution: After walking about 50 cm from where the dotted braille blocks end, there is a step that goes up about 10 cm.)
  24. There are stairs going down nearby. At the dotted braille blocks, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk about 3 meters until you reach the top of the stairs. The handrail is on your left when going down the stairs.

You have reached your destination.
