Interfacility Requests (Browse Kansai-kan materials at the Tokyo Main Library)

You can request materials held at the Kansai-kan to be delivered to the Tokyo Main Library for use.
Materials held at the International Library of Children's Literature cannot be requested for delivery to the Tokyo Main Library.

Before Making a Request

You need to register as a user to make requests.

Interfacility requests are available only to official registered users and simple registered users.
To use requested materials, official registration is required. Those who applied using simple registration must bring identification documents when visiting the library to complete official registration.

Remote photoduplication service
If you have identified the specific sections of the materials you need, you can use our remote photoduplication service.

E-journals/E-books
Some e-journals are available for use on the terminals within the library. Some materials, such as foreign journals, can be viewed and printed out on the terminals within the library.

Materials Available via Interfacility Request

Interfacility request is available for those types of materials listed below.

  • Foreign periodicals
  • Japanese doctoral dissertations
  • Scientific research reports under grants from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
  • Standards
  • Patents of foreign countries
  • Technical reports
  • Materials related to Asia

Materials listed below are not suitable for transportation to the Tokyo Main Library.

  • Japanese periodicals
  • CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, or other electronic media
  • Materials on open shelves
  • Materials held in the Tokyo Main Library or the International Library of Children's Literature
  • Materials that have been digitized
  • Materials that would be easily scattered
  • Damaged or deteriorating materials

How to Request

You can make an interfacility request both at the Kansai-kan Material Counter in the Tokyo Main Library, and via NDL Search on the Internet. If you make a request at the counter, you can choose an earlier date for browsing than when making a request online.

Notes

  • We cannot accept requests to add or change requested materials. Please cancel your application and reapply.
  • If you want to cancel your reservation, please let us know by coming to the Kansai-kan Material Counter or by phone.
  • We cannot accept additional interfacility requests until your current requests are cancelled or have expired.
  • We reserve the right to cancel a request even after it has been accepted if the status or condition of the requested materials warrants doing so. In such a case, we will notify you by phone or by email no later than the day before your browsing period begins.
  • An email address which is able to receive email from ndl.go.jp has to be registered to your user information if you make a request via NDL Search.

Using Kansai-kan Materials

You can pick up Kansai-kan materials which you requested at the Kansai-kan Material Counter in the Annex Building at the Tokyo Main Library.
Photoduplication of materials is subject to the terms of Japan's Copyright Act and the condition of the materials.
You can use materials as many times as you like during the usage period.
The browsing period cannot be extended.
