* A text file of these directions can be downloaded at the end of this page.

Directions for walking to the NDL from Exit 2 of Nagatacho Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line, Hanzomon Line, and Namboku Line are as follow.
Your destination is the visitors' entrance of the Tokyo Main Library of the National Diet Library (NDL).
The distance is about 300 meters and takes approximately 15 minutes on foot.
From the top of the stairs at Exit 2, your destination is located approximately at the 11 o'clock position, but you will have to navigate several turns and use a crosswalk with traffic signals along the way.
The sidewalk includes braille blocks almost everywhere along the route.
The directions given below follow the braille blocks and use clock positions.

  1. First, having found the stairs that lead to Exit 2 of Nagatacho station, ascend the stairs, keeping to the right. At the top of the stairs, you will find dotted braille blocks directly in front of you, indicating that you have reached Exit 2 and are about to exit the station. Proceed forward along the dotted braille blocks for about 3 meters in the 12 o'clock direction.
  2. Next, turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk about 1 meter to exit the station, where you will find T-shaped braille blocks.
(Caution: Braille blocks are discontinued at this point. After walking about 20 cm from where the dotted braille blocks end, there is a step that drops about 10 cm. After going down the step, braille blocks stop for about 50 cm until you reach T-shaped braille blocks.)
  3. At the T-shaped braille blocks, proceed forward about 2 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach braille blocks running left to right.
  4. At the braille blocks, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk about 4 meters until you reach a turn toward 10 o'clock.
  5. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 10 o'clock direction and walk about 10 meters until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 2 o'clock directions.
(Note: On the way, in about 6 meters, there is an intersection heading in the 4 o'clock direction to a crosswalk.)
  6. At the intersection, turn in the 2 o'clock direction and walk about 5 meters until you reach a crosswalk with traffic signals. The name of the crossroads is Kokkai Toshokan Mae ('In front of the National Diet Library').
(Note: The traffic signal of the crosswalk is acoustic and sounds like the call of a cuckoo when it is safe to cross.)
  7. Braille blocks are laid out in the center of the crosswalk. Follow those braille blocks for about 13 meters until you reach a sidewalk.
  8. Proceed forward about 3 meters in the 12 o'clock direction until you reach an intersection branching in the 8 and 2 o'clock directions.
  9. At the intersection, turn in the 2 o'clock direction and walk about 10 meters until you reach a turn toward 10 o'clock.
(Note: On the way, in about 9 meters, there is an intersection heading in the 2 o'clock direction to a crosswalk.)
  10. At the turn of the braille blocks, turn in the 10 o'clock direction and walk about 65 meters until you reach an intersection branching in the 12 and 9 o'clock directions.

(Caution: If you reach the T-shaped braille blocks after passing the intersection heading in the 12 o'clock direction, you have traveled too far. Do not proceed beyond this point as it is an entrance/exit for cars. At the T-shaped braille blocks, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and you will come to a street light pole.)

(Note: On the way, in about 10 meters, there is an intersection branching in the 9 o'clock direction that leads to the South Entrance of the NDL. The South Entrance is not the visitors' entrance, but you can use it if you need assistance. The directions in that case are as follows.
At the intersection, turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk about 13 meters until you reach a 3 o'clock turn. Turn in the 3 o'clock direction and walk about 3 meters until you reach a 9 o'clock turn. Turn in the 9 o'clock direction and walk about 6 meters until you reach the automatic doors.
