Kumamoto Castle
Kumamoto Castle is a famous castle built by KATO Kiyomasa on a plateau called Mt. Chausu in 1607. The stone walls are called mushagaeshi and are one of the signature characteristics of Kumamoto Castle. During the Seinan War in 1877, government forces were besieged inside the castle.
