Izu Oshima Island

The largest island located in the northernmost Izu Islands, Tokyo. There is an active volcano, Mt. Mihara, which has been revered as "Gojinka" (sacred fire), in the center of the island. It was considered a place of exile until the mid-Edo period. It is known as a production center of camellias, and the Oshima Cherry Stump is designated as a Special Natural Monument.
