Information for Visitors

Opening Hours

Although the opening hours of the Kansai-kan are 9:30 to 18:00, requests for materials and copying services must be made before 18:00 (see "Hours of Service" for details). Please note that it takes time to search for the materials and request copying services. Your sufficiently early visit is recommended.

Taking belongings

* Visitors are not allowed to carry into the library any bags, paper bags, envelopes or any other opaque containers of a size 7x10 inches (17x26 cm) or larger. You are requested to carry writing instruments, purses and valuables in your hands or clear plastic bags/folders (plastic bags are provided by the library). Please put other items which are not allowed in the library (**) in a locker located near the elevator (coin-operated lockers; the 100-yen coin will be returned after use). You can use the umbrella stands located near the visitors' entrance and in the locker room on the first floor.

** ITEMS NOT ALLOWED IN THE LIBRARY

  • Bags, Paper bags, Envelopes or any other opaque containers 7x10 inches (17x26 cm) or larger
  • Umbrellas
  • Copiers
  • Cameras
  • Scanners
  • Ink bottles
  • Blades (scissors, paper cutters, etc.)
  • Dangerous materials, etc.

* Personal computers, word processors, etc. may be used in the designated sections of the library (electrical outlets available).
* Visitors carrying food or beverages with them are asked to eat them in the Cafeteria on the fourth floor. Eating and drinking while reading a material are strictly prohibited.
* You need to carry an identification card if you wish to apply to be a Registered User.

In the library

* Taking photographs is not allowed inside the library.
* Please turn off the sound of your cell phone, PHS and/or pager while in the library. Conversations by phone are not allowed in the Reading Room.
* Smoking is prohibited on the premises.
* Visitors carrying food or beverages with them are asked to eat them in the Cafeteria on the fourth floor. Eating and drinking while reading a material are strictly prohibited.
* Please do not use the reading seats if you are not using the library's materials.

User Card

The user card is required when searching, requesting, receiving, returning and having materials photocopied; you should not lose or damage it. (Caution! Do not leave your user card in the user terminals, etc.). Please notify the staff at the nearest counter or at the Entrance Counter if the card is lost.
