Description

Second president of the Mitsubishi zaibatsu. Younger brother of IWASAKI Yataro. After studying in the United States, he returned to Japan in 1873 and joined Mitsubishi Shokai. After the death of his brother in 1885, he started diversified business as the president and proceeded with the acquisition of shipbuilding and mining companies. In 1890, he purchased the military land in Marunouchi, Tokyo from the national government and built a Western-style business street. In 1893, Yanosuke established Mitsubishi and handed over the presidency to Hisaya, Yataro’s eldest son. In 1896, he became the fourth Governor of the Bank of Japan, adopted the gold standard, and contributed to finance in Japan. He created Seikado Bunko Library. Baron.
