The exhibition held in 2014 entitled "Autograph manuscripts and original artwork of well-known people" comprised autograph manuscripts of shokan (letters), hagaki (postcards), or other handwritten documents by well-known people who lived during the period from early modern times through the Showa era. We have reconstructed these materials in a digital exhibition for our patrons to enjoy any time and from any place.

The exhibit includes portraits and explanatory notes along with images of the autograph manuscripts, so that you can easily imagine when and in what frame of mind these well-known people created these documents and artworks. Also, we have provided links to full-text versions of these materials in the NDL Digital Collections, when available. (

The materials in this exhibition were all created by famous people you learned about in school, or appeared in books. Come see what their autograph manuscripts look like.
