This page provides information about changes in the provision of bibliographic data, mainly the Japanese National Bibliography, following the release of the new NDL Search.

1. New Service Offerings
The download function of bibliographic data has been expanded
The new NDL Search allows you to download bibliographic data in various formats.
Downloadable data formats
All of the data formats below, including MARC format and MARC tag format, can be downloaded one by one from the bibliography details screen and as multiple items at once from the search results list screen.
- MARC format
- MARC tag format
- TSV format
- BibTex format
- DC-NDL (RDF) format
- JSON format
* The level of detail (range of output items) varies depending on the data format.
* Only the following bibliographic data can be downloaded in MARC format and MARC tag format.
- NDL collections (tangible materials)
- Online journals whose ISSNs are registered by the NDL
- E-journals contracted by the NDL
- The Japanese Periodicals Index (JPI) compiled and organized by the NDL
New search screens such as Web Japanese National Bibliography (Web JNB) have been added
The new NDL Search has new search screens focused on a specific range of bibliographic data, such as Web Japanese National Bibliography, which allows users to search for and download national bibliographic data.
The bibliographic data download function, downloadable data formats, and the scope of downloads in MARC format and MARC tag format are the same as in the new NDL Search, but the recommended data formats differ depending on the search screen. For details, please refer to the following.

Web Japanese National Bibliography (Web JNB)
Only national bibliographic data (standard bibliographic data for publications published in Japan and Japanese-language publications) can be searched and downloaded by bibliography completion date, material category (book/serials, etc.), government publication, ISBN, ISSN, keyword, etc. It is possible to narrow the search to newly arrived (in-process) records (national bibliographic data in preparation (excluding map materials and Asian language materials)).

Web NDL Catalog (Web NDL Cat)
Only the National Diet Library's collection (tangible materials) can be searched and downloaded by title, author/editor, publisher, ISBN, ISSN, classification code (NDC, NDLC), keyword, etc.

Web Japanese National Bibliography Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals
Only online materials (e-books and e-journals) collected by the National Diet Library can be searched and downloaded by title, author/editor, publisher, ISBN, ISSN, keywords, data registration date to the new NDL Search, etc.
Recommended data format: TSV format
Bibliographic Records of e-Books and e-Periodicals Published in Japan
Within the scope provided by the new NDL Search, bibliographic data for domestic e-books, e-magazines, etc. can be searched by title, author/editor, publisher, ISBN, ISSN, keyword, etc.
* Depending on the data provider, bibliographic data such as dissertations may be included.
* Bibliographic data for some materials, such as e-books and e-journals collected by the National Diet Library, can also be downloaded in TSV format or other formats.
2. Termination of Services
Distribution of the following RSS feeds that were available via the old NDL Search has ended.
- Newly arrived (in-process) records
- Japanese National Bibliography (complete records)
- Japanese National Bibliography records of e-books and e-magazines
* Although these RSS feeds have been terminated, we continue to provide the above data by other methods.
The MARC Acquisition Tool ceased to accept applications at the end of November 2023. Support for the tools distributed to those who applied ended at the end of December 2023. After January 2024, the same data is available through the Web Japanese National Bibliography described in 1. New Service Offerings.
3. Service Changes
The API provided by the old NDL Search is available in the new NDL Search, but the URL, the format provided, and the OAI-PMH identifier have changed. For details, please refer to the following page.
The Japanese National Bibliography records of e-books and e-periodicals in TSV format is now offered on a weekly rather than daily basis, and the listing period has been extended from three months to one year. For details, please refer to the following page.

4. Services without Changes
No changes were made to the JAPAN/MARC data provided via the NDL website.
