2025-7-29 Tokyo Main Library expected to be crowded during August

The Tokyo Main Library will have more visitors than usual in August.

We expect the library to be very crowded especially on the following days:

• Saturdays (August 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30)
• During the Bon Festival (August 13 through 16)
• August 19 and 21, as we are closed on the third Wednesday (August 20)

Please give yourself plenty of time for your visit.

User registration (official registration) is required to request library materials from the closed stacks.

New user registration by visiting the National Diet Library is taking much longer than usual because of the large numbers of visitors.

Please be aware that when the library is crowded, the reception desk might close earlier than scheduled. Please come to the library early in the day if you intend to request new user registration.
