News on International Cooperation (2025)

December 3, 2025

The 31st meeting of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries in Asia and Oceania (CDNLAO) was held online. The subject of this year's conference was "Shared Knowledge for a Shared Future: National Libraries in Partnership." NDL Deputy Director General Mr. YAMAJI Yasushi participated in the conference and made a presentation entitled "Japan Search : A National Platform of Digital Archives" (Presentation file: [PDF: 1.97MB]). An online meeting of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries (CDNL) was held. The subject of this conference was "When collections are threatened: leading national libraries in difficult times". NDL Director General Ms. KURATA Keiko participated in the conference. November 3-7, 2025

The 21st International Conference on Digital Preservation (iPRES 2025) was held in Wellington, New Zealand, as well as online. Ms. MATSUDA Eri (Digital Library Division, Kansai-kan) attended the conference in person and Ms. TANAKA Yoko (Digitization Promotion Office, Digital Information Planning Division, Digital Information Department) participated online.

October 27-November 2, 2025

The 41st Mutual Visit Program between the National Library of China (NLC) and the NDL was held in China. Headed by Mr. OBA Toshiyasu (Director General, Reader Services and Collections Department), a delegation of five NDL employees visited the NLC and gave three different presentations on three different subjects, each followed by a discussion session. The 62nd National Library Contest Exhibition was held in Suwon, Korea. Ms. TSUZUKI Shima (Public Services Division, Kansai-kan) joined the event.

The International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications (DCMI 2025) was held in Barcelona, Spain and. Mr. TAKAHASHI Kosuke (Digital Information Distribution Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference.

The IFLA Section Preservation and Conservation (PRESCONS) webinar entitled "Resilient Libraries: Responding to Global Climate Change" was held online. Mr. KURAHASHI Tetsuro (Library Counsellor, Acquisitions and Bibliography Department & Director of the IFLA PAC Regional Centre for Asia) participated in the webinar and made a presentation entitled "The importance of collaboration and establishing mutual support networks to improve disaster resilience" (Presentation file: [PDF: 631KB]). 2025 Overseas Korean Studies Librarian Workshop was held in Seoul, Korea. Ms. TSUZUKI Shima (Public Services Division, Kansai-kan) attended the workshop.

The European Parliamentary Technology Assessment (EPTA) 2025 Conference and Council Meeting was held in Paris, France. Mr. SAWADA Daisuke (Director, Science and Technology Research Office, Education, Culture, Science and Technology Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) attended the conference.

October 5-11, 2025

The 50th ISSN Centre Directors' Meeting was held in Paris, France. Ms. OKUDA Tomoko (Director, Serials and Non-book Materials Division, Acquisitions and Bibliography Department) attended the meeting.

September 10-13, 2025

The 35th Conference of the European Association of Japanese Resource Specialists (EAJRS) was held in Heidelberg, Germany, as well as online. Ms. ITO Risa (Director, Foreign Materials Division, Acquisitions and Bibliography Department) and Mr. IKEDA Koichi (Assistant Director, Digital Information Planning Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference in person. Mr. IKEDA also attended the pre-event held on September 9. Ms. ITO made a presentation entitled "Research on Ningyo Joruri (Bunraku puppet theatre) Using Digital Resources" (Presentation file: [PDF: 2.2MB]). August 30-31, 2025

The 2025 Asia Oceania Regional Congress of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) was held in Suwon, Republic of Korea. Ms. YABE Moyu (Planning and Cooperation Division, International Library of Children’s Literature) attended the conference in person.

August 18-22, 2025

The World Library and Information Congress 2025—the 89th International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) General Conference and Assembly—was held in Astana, Kazakhstan, on the theme Uniting Knowledge, Building the Future. A delegation of six headed by NDL Director General Ms. KURATA Keiko attended the conference in person. July 14-18, 2025

The Digital Humanities Conference 2025 was held in Lisbon, Portugal, as well as online. Ms. MURATA Yuna (Systems Infrastructure Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference in person.

July 7-12, 2025

The 25th Mutual Visit Program between the National Library of Korea (NLK) and the NDL was held when Ms. KIM Haeryoun, (Director, Online Resources Division), Ms. LEE Okju (Deputy Director, Knowledge and Information Services Division), and Ms. LEE Sookyoung (Librarian, Digital Initiatives Division) of the NLK visited Japan. The International Internet Preservation Consortium (IIPC) General Assembly and Web Archiving Conference was held in Oslo, Norway. Ms. ITO Hibiki (Digital Library Division, Kansai-kan) attended the conference.

The Bologna Children's Book Fair was held in Bologna, Italy. Ms. NAKAJIMA Mina (Planning and Cooperation Division, International Library of Children's Literature) attended the conference.

March 27-28, 2025

The Global Conference on AI, Security and Ethics 2025 was held both on site and online in Geneva, Switzerland. Ms. KYUKO Satomi (Foreign Affairs and National Defense Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) attended the conference in person.

March 11-13, 2025

Meetings of the Council on East Asian Libraries (CEAL) and the North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (NCC) were held in Columbus, USA. Ms. ISHIZAWA Aya (Assistant Director, Photoduplication Service Division, Reader Services and Collections Department) and Mr. HIRASAWA Daisuke (Public Services Division, Kansai-kan) attended the conferences. They made a presentation entitled "National Diet Library Services Providing Access to Digitized Library Materials" (Presentation file: [PDF: 1.85MB]).
