Frequently asked questions

I have forgotten my password.

You can reset your NDL Search password at any time as long as you have a registered email address. When you visit the Library, please bring identification (such as a driver's license or Individual Number Card) and present this to the User Registration Counter (Tokyo Main Library) or the General Information Desk (Kansai-kan Library). Library staff will notify you of your renewed password.

Even after entering my ID and password into NDL Search, I am unable to log in.

Please enter both your ID and password using regular (half-width) alphanumeric English characters. ID and passwords are not case-sensitive. Also, please be aware that you will not be able to log in if your registration has expired. The validity of your registration will expire when three years have passed from the registration or the last update. If you are not sure what your ID is, please apply to have your ID resent by entering the registered information in the Application form for resending registered user ID number(Japanese only). You can also inquire at the User Registration Counter (Tokyo Main Library),the General Information Desk (Kansai-kan Library) or contact the ILL Section of the Kansai-kan of the National Diet Library, and Library staff will investigate the matter.

It's annoying having to enter my password each time I use a terminal inside the Library.

When using a terminal within the Library to apply to read materials from the closed stacks or to apply for print-outs, you will be asked for password authentication each time in order to verify the identity of the person making the request. We apologize for any inconvenience, and we thank you for your understanding.
