Services for the Executive & Judicial Agencies
The Branch Library System
One objective of the National Diet Library mandated by the NationalDiet Library Law is to extend its services to the executiveand judicial agencies of Japan. Consequently the NDL operates 27 Branch Library in the government's ministries, agencies, and the Supreme Court. Each of them is a specialized library with a unique stock of materials to assist in the work of thestaff members of that particular institution.
The Branch Library System forms a network centered on the NDL.The network is intended to facilitate the exchange of publications among the government ministries and agencies, reciprocal lending of materials, execution of various investigations, and wide-ranging cooperation among the libraries. The NDL provides training for Branch Library staff members and carries out activities to keep the network operating effectively condition.
