Your cooperation is requested in preventing the spread of COVID-19 (Kansai-kan)

Last update: July 6, 2020

Information on suspension of library services or changes in library hours will be announced on the NDL website and Twitter account.

We are pleased to announce that the Kansai-kan will resume offering onsite services starting Thursday, June 4, 2020, although it has been closed to the general public since Saturday, April 11, as part of government measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
We are taking preventative measures as follows:

Admission will be restricted as necessary when crowded.

You might be asked to wait before entering a Reading Room. The number of seats in reading rooms will be reduced in order to keep physical distance between users.

When you enter the library, your body temperature will be checked with a thermographic sensor.

Visitors with a fever will not be allowed to enter.
Please refrain from visiting the Kansai-kan if you have a fever, cough, sore throat, or feel fatigued.

Alcohol hand sanitizer is available at the entrance of the library and in each counter.

Please be sure to wash your hands and use sanitizer to prevent the spread of infection.

Please wear a mask when you visit the Kansai-kan.

Our staff will wear masks. Anti-infection protective film is installed at each counter.

Please be sure that an adequate physical distance will be kept when staff provide directions to users.

Please limit your time at the library and stay only as long as necessary by confirming in advance whether the materials are held in the library.

You can check out the library's holdings on NDL Online. If you won't use the library's holdings nor databases contracted by the NDL, please refrain from visiting us.

Terminals in the library will be cleaned once a day.

Registered-users can apply for the materials held in the stacks and confirm the arrival with their own PC or smart phones after entering the library.

Other notices

Please refrain from visiting the Kansai-kan if in the past two weeks you have visited a country or region where measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are in place.

Ventilation systems will be operating constantly in the library.
Please maintain proper spacing while waiting in line at counters.
Group study rooms remain unavailable for now.
Regular events like guided tours or short instruction sessions remain unavailable for now.
For the time being, hand driers in the lavatory are not available.

You can use our online services without visiting the library. Please refer to "List of Online Services". We have also resumed offering remote photoduplication services starting Wednesday, May 20, 2020.
