December 15-17, 2021

The 7th JSA-ASEAN Conference 2021 was held online. Ms. HIGASHIKAWA Azusa (Parliamentary Documents and Official Publications Division, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) and 3 other NDL employees attended the conference. A poster was provided to the online exhibition (Poster: [PDF 4.85MB]) .

November 30, 2021

An Online Exchange Program between the National Diet Library and the National Library of China (NLC) was held. First, a Directors’ meeting was held, followed by presentations on "Development and Construction of Smart Libraries."(For more information, see Exchange Activities with Foreign Libraries .)

October 28, 2021

An Online Exchange Program between the National Diet Library and the National Library of Korea (NLK) was held. First, keynote speeches were given by each library, followed by presentations on "Recent Developments on Digital Shift." (For more information, see Exchange Activities with Foreign Libraries.)

October 19-22, 2021

The 17th International Conference on Digital Preservation (iPRES2021) was held in Beijing, China and online. Ms. MATSUNAGA Shinobu (Digital Library Division, Kansai-kan) and Mr. KINOSHITA Takahumi (Research and Development for Next-Generation Systems Office, Digital Information Planning Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference online.

October 4-15, 2021

The International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications 2021 (DCMI Virtual 2021) was held online. Mr. MACHIYA Daichi (Digital Information Distribution Division, Digital Information Department) and Ms. TAKAHASHI Michiko (Digital Information Distribution Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference.

September 21-22, 2021

The 2nd Memory of the World Global Policy Forum on "Disaster Risk Reduction and Management for Sustainable Preservation of Documentary Heritage" was held in Paris, France and online. Mr. NAGAI Yoshikazu (Senior Librarian, Acquisitions and Bibliography Department) and Ms. SEKI Sayaka (Preservation Division, Acquisitions and Bibliography Department) attended the conference online. A poster was provided to the online exhibition (Poster: [PDF 1.27MB]).

September 16-17, 2021

National Libraries Now 2021 Conference: International Perspectives on Library Curation was held online. Mr. OKUMURA Makito (Assistant Director, Digital Information Planning Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference and made a presentation entitled "Curation using Japan Search" (YouTube).

September 15-18, 2021

The 31st Conference of the European Association of Japanese Resource Specialists (EAJRS) was held in Saint Petersburg, Russia and online. Mr. HYUGA Tomoaki (Assistant Director, Branch Libraries and Cooperation Division, Administrative Department) and Mr. ONUMA Tahee (Research and Development for Next-Generation Systems Office, Digital Information Planning Division, Digital Information Department) attended the conference online. The 37th International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) World Congress 2021 was held in Moscow, Russia and online. Ms. AKO Chika (Resources and Information Division, International Library of Children's Literature) attended the conference online and made a presentation entitled "Children's Books Exhibitions in the International Library of Children's Literature: For Reading Promotion and International Understanding" (Presentation file: [PDF 2.68 MB]).

September 8, 2021

The annual meeting of the Conference of Directors of National Libraries (CDNL) was held on September 8. The subject of this year's conference was Uncertainties: How National Libraries Deal With Risks & Opportunities. NDL Director General YOSHINAGA Motonobu participated in the conference. The CDNL's annual meeting is usually held during the IFLA General Conference and Assembly, but this year it was held on a different date and was the first online meeting. August 17-19 and 25, 2021

The 2021 World Library and Information Congress: International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) General Conference was held as a virtual conference. The theme of this year's conference was "Let's work together for the future." Director General YOSHINAGA Motonobu and 36 other NDL employees registered and participated in sessions related to their work. NDL employee Ms. NAGANO Yuko (Assistant Director, Children's Services Division, International Library of Children's Literature) made a presentation entitled "Use of the World Through Picture Books Exhibition in Tokyo" at the Open Session of the Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section. The IFLA 2021 General Assembly, which is usually held at the same time as the IFLA annual conference, was held online on August 25. June 15-17, 2021

The 13th Association of Parliamentary Librarians of Asia and the Pacific (APLAP) Conference was held online. Mr. TERAKURA Kenichi (Director General, Research and Legislative Reference Bureau) and 5 other NDL employees attended the conference. June 14-16, 2021

February 16, 2021

A web meeting was held between the National Diet Library, Japan, (NDL) and the National Library of Peru (Biblioteca Nacional del Perú: BNP). The meeting was attended by thirteen NDL employees, including Director General YOSHINAGA Motonobu; ten BNP employees, including Dr. Ezio Neyra Magagna, Director of the BNP; three employees of the Embassy of Peru in Japan, and two employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru. Following opening remarks by both Dr. Magagna and Mr. Yoshinaga, Dr. Magagna made a presentation entitled "Four strategies leading to modernization of the BNP" and Ms. SATO Yoriko, Library Counsellor of the Acquisitions and Bibliography Department (Director of the IFLA PAC Regional Centre for Asia), made a presentation entitled "Conservation of Paper Materials and Disaster Management at the NDL."
