Professor Suh Hye Ran Appointed as National Library of Korea Chief Executive

On August 31 (Sat), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Park Yang-woo) appointed Suh Hye Ran, professor of library and information science at Silla University, as the Chief Executive of the National Library of Korea, the first NLK Chief Executive to be appointed through public competition. Suh Hye Ran will serve as the Chief Executive for 3 years from August 31, 2019 to August 30, 2022.
Chief Executive Suh Hye Ran is a renowned expert in the library field with knowledge and experience in library policy and library management. She served as a member of the 6th Presidential Library & Information Standing Committee, Deputy President of Korean Library Association, Director of Silla University Library and a member of the Presidential Committee on Information Disclosure and the Prime Minister's National Records Management Committee. Especially, as a professor, she has a keen interest in library field issues including academic libraries as well as public libraries.
Understanding deeply the mission and duty of a library that represents a nation (including collecting and preserving the national collection, creating and standardizing national bibliography and leading and supporting libraries in Korea), and expertise in theory and practice, she is expected to lead the NLK successfully.
