Description

Succeeded into his family business of drug merchant in 1883 when he was 13 years old. He graduated from the special course in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical sciences of the Imperial University in 1890. He majored in medicinal botany and pharmacognosy. He served as a town council member of Toyohashi-cho in 1895, the mayor of Toyohashi-cho in 1898, a member of the prefectural assembly of Aichi Prefecture in 1899 before became the first mayor of Toyohashi-city in 1907. He was elected a member of the House of Representatives in 1912. He was affiliated to Rikken Kokumin-to(Constitutional National Party), the Kakushin Club, and Rikken Seiyukai (Friends of Constitutional Government Party). After the war, he belonged to the Nihon Jiyu-to (Japan Liberal Party). He was appointed the Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Finance in the Giichi Tanaka Cabinet in 1927. During this period, he also served as executive director of Tokyo Kagaku Kogyo, Toyohashi Denki and Yahagi Suiryoku.
