A midwife. Born in 1844 in Iida-cho, Tokyo as the daughter of a vassal of the Shogun. Widowed at 40, in 1884 she obtained a midwife's license from Tokyo Prefecture and then from the Home Ministry. From then on, for about 30 years she served as vice-president and secretary of the Tokyo Midwives Association. Her achievements included the invention of equipment to help premature babies.
