Current Address
Taito-ku, Iriya
Description
Within the grounds of Shingen-ji Temple, a morning glory market was held every year before and after the Tanabata Festival. This began in the first year of the Meiji Era, however this was an area for cultivating cut flowers and potted plants from the Edo Period. The area was originally swampland called Senzoku Pond, however it was reclaimed by drainage during the Tensho Era (1573-92) and named the Iriya rice fields. The statue of Koshin in the Kihoin Koshindo Hall was said to have been a work of Prince Shotoku, however the Koshindo Hall no longer exists.
