Description
A disciple of Toriyama Sekien. There are theories that he was a disciple of Nishimura Shigenaga and Ishikawa Toyonobu, and also a theory that he became a disciple of Toriyama Sekien after learning from Tsurusawa Tangei of the Kano school in Kyoto. The founder of the Utagawa school. Worked on a large number of uki-e (perspective pictures) while making perspective expression more accurate than before and building a foundation for nishiki-e (brocade pictures) landscapes.
