Description
The head of the Hosoda family, a hatamoto (direct samurai retainer) with a five hundred koku stipend. It is said that Eishi's artist name was granted to him by the eleventh Shogun Ienari. After studying art under Eisen Michinobu of the Kano School, he studied ukiyo-e (pictures of the floating world) under Torii Bunryusai. He is known for his graceful full length body bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women).
