Features and collections Audio-visual materials, musical scores, electronic publications (CD-ROM etc.) are available in the Music and Audio-Visual Materials Room.
Reference books on music and audio-visual materials as well as catalogs published by recording companies are on the open access shelves.
Materials requiring special permission for use
  • Audio recordings (phonograph records, cassette tapes, CDs, etc.)
  • Video recordings (VHS, LD, DVD, Blu-ray, etc.)
  • Music manuscripts and documents
  • TV and radio scripts up to 1980
  • Some materials out of the Eiryo Ashihara Collection (records and performance programs, etc.)
Materials not requiring special permission for use (with some exceptions)
  • Musical scores
  • Electronic publications (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, etc.)
  • Books that include electronic media
  • Materials on the open shelves (reference books on music and audio-visual materials, catalogs published by recording companies)

Announcement
  • Materials requiring special permission include audio-visual materials, music manuscripts and documents, some materials out of the Eiryo Ashihara Collection, or TV and radio scripts. Special permission is granted only to users performing legitimate study or research. After finding a material of interest in the NDL Search or other means, confirm the call number, fill out both a call-slip and a Permission Application Form, and submit them at the counter. Be sure to fill out the column describing the purpose and subject of your research on the Permission Application Form. Advance reservations are required to use music manuscripts. Please fill out a call-slip for materials in the Eiryo Ashihara Collection and request them from the counter.
  • Please request musical scores, electronic publications, and books that include electronic media from the NDL Search. Some materials have restrictions on reading and copying.
  • Materials cannot be taken from the Music and Audio-Visual Materials Room except for copying.
  • Audio-visual materials and electronic publications can only be used with the audio-visual device provided in the Music and Audio-Visual Materials Room. Use of personal devices, including earphones, headphones, PCs, or other devices, is not permitted.
  • Materials will be set up on the audio-visual device by a staff member and must be used in the designated area in the Music and Audio-Visual Materials Room.
  • Patrons may use only one audio-visual device (media) at a time. Since the number of audio-visual devices is limited, users may asked to wait when the seats are full. Users who occupy a seat for a long time could be asked to give up their seats to waiting users.
  • Please understand that there are some materials for which no audio-visual device is available.
  • Installation of electronic publications may take a long time.

Photoduplication of musical scores, TV and radio scripts, or books that include electronic media, and some materials out of the Eiryo Ashihara Collection
Same-day service and later date service (sent by mail) are available.
Photoduplication of materials on the open shelves, record jackets, liner notes, and lyric sheets
Same-day service only. In principle, photoduplication of record jackets, liner notes, and lyric sheets requires written permission of the copyright holder. Please consult our staff.
Printout from electronic resources
Same-day service only. A4 size 20 pages per disk.
