| Features and collections | In this room, basic parliamentary documents, statutes, official publications and international organizations, reference books on law, politics and parliaments (encyclopedias, directories, bibliographies, etc.) and indexes of Japanese and foreign government and international organizations are on open shelves. The set of Japanese materials comprises parliamentary documents, compilations of laws and regulations, treaty series and court reports published since 1868 (the beginning of the Meiji era). In addition, we have microforms of Fuken Tokeisho Shusei (Complete collection of the statistical annuals of the respective prefectures of Japan, 1873-1972), Dainihon Gaikoku Boeki Nenpyo (custom statistics of 1866-1964), Shihosho Nenpo (annual reports of the Ministry of Justice issued before 1945), Rikukaigunsho Nenpo (annual reports of the War and Navy Ministry) and pamphlets of the Japanese government. Foreign materials include parliamentary documents of about 70 countries and statutes of about 150 countries. In particular, basic documents published after the 18th-19th centuries of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France have been collected comprehensively. We also have microforms of documents issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office and the U.K. government, Public papers of U.S. Presidents and declassified documents of the U.S. government. The room has documents of international organizations which designate NDL as depository library, such as the United Nations (including the League of Nations) and its specialized agencies, EU and OECD. |

Materials on the open shelves can be photocopied by same-day service only (partly some materials are regular service only). Some of them can be photocopied from reprint editions or microforms with same-day service. Most materials in closed stacks can be photocopied both same-day service and regular service, although some of them can be photocopied only by regular service.
