  • User Registration is required to use materials (originals and microfilmed materials).
  • To use rare books and semi-rare books, you need to submit an application in advance. We do not accept walk-in applications for same-day use.
  • Advance reservation is required to use the originals on Saturdays. (Advance reservation is not necessary to use microforms and digitized materials)

Features and collections In the Rare Books and Old Materials Room, rare books, semi-rare books (including old Western books, newspapers, and periodicals), Japanese old books up to the Edo Period, Chinese old books up to the Qing Dynasty, etc. are available.

On open shelves or in closed stacks? All materials are in closed stacks
Opening hours Mon.- Sat. 9:30-17:00
Call-slip acceptance hours
For originals, color transparencies: Mon.- Fri. 9:30-16:00
(On Saturdays, by advance reservation only)
(materials are delivered at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00)
For microforms and digitized materials: Mon.- Sat. 9:30-16:00
Announcement
  1. User Registration is required to use materials (originals and microfilmed materials).
  2. Permission is required to use the room. Only for official study or research, or academic study or research. Please fill in application form giving objective and theme of research and submit it at the counter.
  3. Materials already microfilmed or digitized are available only in microform or digitized form to preserve the originals.
  4. Rare books and semi-rare books are available by advance application only.
  5. Advance reservation is required to use the originals on Saturdays. (Advance reservation is not necessary to use microforms and digitized materials)
  6. Pencil only. Do not use erasers.
Photoduplication
  1. Materials already microfilmed or digitized are available only in microform or digitized form to preserve the originals.
  2. Prints from microfilmed or digitized materials can be received on the same day.
    Request for same-day photoduplication service:10:00-16:00
  3. Originals can be photoduplicated only by microfilming (requires 3 working days) or by print from microfilms (requires 6 working days).
    Request for later date photoduplication service (sent by mail):10:00-16:30
  4. Special permission for photoduplication is required in case of copying all pages from an originals.
