Information Diet & other Parliaments Full-text Database System for the Minutes of the Diet* Full-text database of the Diet session proceedings since the 1st session (May, 1947).
Database System for the Minutes of the Imperial Diet* All proceedings from the 1st session to the 92nd session (November 1890 to March 1947) are available.
Index Database to Japanese Laws, Regulations and Bills* This database contains information on the promulgation dates (dates of announcement in the Official Gazette), dates of amendment, dates of abolition, etc. of the laws, orders and ordinances issued since 1886. It also contains information on the bills introduced to the Imperial Diet (1890 to 1947) and the Diet (1947 to present).
Index Datebase to Laws and Regulations in early Meiji Japan* This database contains information on the laws, orders and ordinances promulgated in the period between 1867 and 1886.
Parliamentary Documents and Official Publications of Japanese and Foreign Governments(Parliamentary Documents and Official Publications Room) This page gives an outline of the holdings of the Parliamentary Documents and Official Publications Room, including parliamentary documents, official gazettes, statute books, publications of government offices of Japan and other countries and documents of international organizations. Books on Japan This page will provide bibliographic information of books on Japan in Western languages newly acquired by the NDL. It will be updated every three month.
Database of Japanese Children´s Books translated into Foreign Language* You can search information on Japanese children's books translated into foreign languages and published outside Japan.
Asian Resources Room Approximately 30,000 volumes of Asian language materials (including the Middle East and North Africa), Japanese and Western language reference books, newspapers and periodicals are available on the open shelves.
Electronic Library NDL Search Provides services that enable integrated search of bibliographic data and digital archives of prefectural libraries, archives, museums, institutes of academic research and NDL.
Digital Library from the Meiji Era* Image database of the books held by the NDL and published in the Meiji, Taisho and early Showa eras, excluding books in Western languages.
After copyright clearance, the following classes of books are available on the Internet.
  1. Books whose copyright has expired
  2. Books whose copyright holder permits NDL to show them on the Internet
  3. Books licensed by the Commissioner of the Agency for Cultural Affairs
The rest which do not have copyright clearance are available only inside the NDL (Tokyo Main Library and Kansai-kan).
Rare Books Image Database* "Rare Books Image Database" was moved to "Digitized Contents (Rare Books, etc.)*" on April 4, 2011.
Digitized Contents (Rare Books, etc.)* You can search and read digital contents such as images previously provided by the "Rare Books Image Database" and publications collected from the Internet.
Contents digitized by the NDL Digitization Project and others are scheduled to be added.
Historical Recordings Collection* Valuable sound sources such as music and speeches from Japanese records such as 78-rpm records from the early 1900s to around 1950 digitized by the Historical Records Archive Promotion Conference (HiRAC) are available on-site and/or on the Internet.
Web Archiving Project The NDL collects, archives and provides websites and online periodicals of public sectors institution and others. The contents are able to be searched by keyword and so on.
Online Gallery Japanese Mathematics in the Edo Period Wasan is the native Japanese mathematics of the Edo period. This digital exhibition shows 45 Wasan materials with their bibliography. It also gives an outline of Wasan history and columns about it.
Expositions, where the modern technology of the times was exhibited This exhibition gives an outline of international expositions and Japanese industrial exhibitions in the late 19th century and introduces the industrial technology development of the time with about 740 images of exhibits.
Japan-Netherlands Exchange in the Edo Period This exhibition introduces the history of Japan-Netherlands exchange in two parts. About 240 old materials including Dutch books from our collection, documents, diaries, etc. are displayed.
100 anos de imigração japonesa no Brasil (Portuguese) This exhibition introduces about 200 materials of documents, newspaper articles, etc. related to Japanese immigration to Brazil from our collections.
The exhibition has been available since March 2009.
Rare books of the National Diet Library - The 60th anniversary - This exhibition aims to provide electronically on the website the materials of the special exhibitions held in 2008 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the National Diet Library. This exhibition introduces 77 rare materials categorized into three themes: "Carrying on the Classics," "Intellectual Exchange," and "Varieties of ‘ehon‘ books.’ It has been available since November 2008.
The Meiji and Taisho Eras in Photographs This exhibition introduces photographs of famous buildings and sights from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century, selected from the photo books in our collection.
The Tokyo version has been available since August 2007, and the Kansai version has been available since March 2008.
Modern Japan in archives This exhibition presents representative documents related to modern Japanese political history. The exhibition has been available since July 2006.
Fauna and Flora in Illustrations* This exhibition presents materials related to the natural history of the Edo era. The contents have been available since December 2005, based on the special exhibition held in FY2005 with additional materials provided in digital form under the title "Eyes to Nature."
Incunabula This exhibition presents incunabula, books that were printed using metal type up to the year 1500. 13 incunabula and 55 incunabula leaves are shown.
Portraits of Modern Japanese Historical Figures This exhibition presents portrait photographs of approximately two hundred statesmen, government officials, military officers, businessmen, and others who had an impact on building modern Japanese society.
Japanese Ex-libris Stamps This exhibition follows the trail of book collectors in Japan through ex-libris ownership stamps in books.
Birth of the Constitution of Japan This exhibition shows the important documents with commentaries concerning the formulation of Constitution of Japan. The exhibition was revised and completed in May 2004.
The Japanese Calendar This page offers an accessible introduction to the history of the Japanese calendar with digital images of the Daisho-reki calendar, which was popular in the Edo period.
Rare Books of the National Diet Library* The contents of an exhibition held in 1998 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the NDL have been reproduced in digital form. Exhibition materials can be searched and observed by various methods including indexes, maps and chronological tables. Thanks to digitization, displays of large images such as Inouzu and other special materials are being attempted in novel formats at special exhibitions.
Nippon in the world This electronic exhibition consists of three parts: "Scenic Mementos of Japan, " "Vienna International Exposition, " and "Modern Japanese Political History Materials." Japanese history, culture, international exchanges, etc. are introduced here multilaterally by digital technology. This exhibition is held in cooperation with the "Bibliotheca Universalis" project, in which national libraries in the world are participating.
Small Electronic Exhibitions "Kaleidoscope of Books"* These small electronic exhibitions introduce various themes, topical or of interest from the NDL collections. The pamphlets of regular exhibitions that finished in 2008 are also available.
The Picture Book Gallery The ILCL edits and introduces valuable picture books published inside and outside Japan in digital images to trace the development of the "picture book" genre from its birth to the present.
Children's Books Going Overseas from Japan This exhibition introduces the countries and regions in which Japanese children's books have been translated, what kind of changes have been made to illustrations and texts, etc., by displaying about 300 items, including translated Japanese children's books in over thirty countries and regions, and also their Japanese originals.
The 100th anniversary of the former Imperial Library building* The building that now houses the International Library of Children's Literature was built in 1906 as the Imperial Library. In 2006, ILCL celebrated the 100th anniversary of that original building, and produced electronic exhibition in commemoration of the centenary. Photographs and other materials of buildings in each era and place are available. (In Japanese)
