Using library materials in closed stacks

Searching for and requesting materials from the closed-stacks

The Kansai-kan operates under a closed-stack system. Materials available on open shelves are limited.
To read materials stored in closed stacks, please search for and request the materials you require from the NDL-OPAC on a user terminal.
Please be aware that although English-language search functionality is available, requests can only be made in Japanese.

Tracking your requests

You can verify the status of your request at a user terminal. It generally takes from 10 to 20 minutes to retrieve materials stored in the closed stacks.

Picking up materials

Collect Counter

Please show your user card when you pick up the materials at the Collect counter.
* Materials cannot be taken outside the library.

Inter-Site Request

Some materials held at the Tokyo Main Library and/or the International Library of Children's Literature are available for the inter-site request.
Please inquire at the Information Desk for details.
