History of the Kansai-kan project

Kansai-kan of the National Diet Library

June	1982	Research Committee for the Kansai Project of the National Diet Library (NDL) established.
April	1987	Report on the establishment of a new facility in Kansai Science City submitted by the Research Committee to the Librarian.
August	1988	"First Basic Plan for the Establishment of the Kansai-kan of the NDL (provisional name)" developed.
August	1991	"Second Basic Plan for the Construction of the Kansai-kan of the NDL (provisional name)" developed.
May	1994	Kansai-kan Project Office established.
December	1994	Recommendations for construction of the Kansai-kan submitted by the NDL Building Commission to the Diet. Budget appropriated in FY1995 and the Kansai-kan construction project started.
August	1996	Mr. Fumio Toki, a Japanese architect, won the first prize in the design competition.
October	1998	Construction started.
March	2002	Construction completed and handover ceremony held.
April	2002	Kansai-kan established.
September	2002	Transfer of library materials completed.
October 7,	2002	Kansai-kan opened.
