The 20th Mutual Visit Program between the National Diet Library and the National Library of Korea

The 20th mutual visit program of the National Diet Library (NDL) and the National Library of Korea (NLK) was held in Seoul from September 18 to 23, 2017. Headed by Mr. Yoshitaka ITO, Director of the Planning Division, Administrative Department, the delegation consisted of the following other members: Mr. Kazunori YASUI, Chief of the Planning Section, Planning Division, Administrative Department; Mr. Kosaku OSHIMA, Director of the Library Support Division, Kansai-kan of the NDL; and Ms. Emiko NARAKI, Assistant Director of the Children’s Services Division, International Library of Children's Literature (ILCL).

Session at the National Library for Children and Young Adults

Theme: Current and future challenges in library services for children and young adults: promoting reading in cooperation with related organizations

  • Revamped services and affiliated programs for children and young adults at the ILCL
    Ms. Emiko Naraki (Assistant Director, Children’s Services Division, ILCL)
  • Current and future challenges in library services for children and young adults: joint projects for promoting reading
    Ms. PARK Kyoung-suk (Deputy Director, Planning and Cooperation Division, National Library for Children and Young Adults)

In the Opening Session, keynote speeches were given by representatives of both libraries. Mr. Ito reported the outline, current status and challenges of each activity set to be focused on according to The National Diet Library Midterm Vision: Universal Access 2020 and the National Diet Library Milestone Goals 2017–2020. Mr. Cho introduced major activities of 2017 to enhance the functions and roles of the NLK and the current prioritized works. In Sessions 1 and 2, experts from both libraries reported on their recent activities and achievements. At the National Library for Children and Young Adults of the NLK, both representatives reported on their library’s services for children. The reports and discussions were highly thought-provoking for both sides.

After these sessions, the delegation visited the National Digital Library of Korea, Seoul National University Library, the National Museum of Korea, and other related institutions.
