Inauguration ceremony held at the International Library of Children’s Literature

The inauguration ceremony of the new building of the International Library of Children’s Literature (ILCL) took place on September 16, 2015 to celebrate the completion of the annex called the Arch Building. Many guests from the Diet (national parliament), embassies, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the construction industry, the fields of children’s literature and libraries, and neighboring cultural institutions of the ILCL attended the ceremony.

Mr. Noritada OTAKI, Librarian of the National Diet Library (NDL) made the opening speech, which was followed by congratulatory speeches by Mr. Tadamori OSHIMA, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Mr. Masaaki YAMAZAKI, President of the House of Councillors.

Before and after the ceremony, the NDL staff offered library tours to the guests and the media to introduce the design concept and the features of the Arch Building and also the new services to be provided in the Researchers’ Reading Room.


Library tour

The Arch Building has the capacity to store 650,000 volumes of books and houses the Researchers’ Reading Room and the two Seminar Rooms designed for holding events including lecture meetings.
