Training for Japanese Studies Librarians Outside of Japan
Library services practicum at the Kansai-kan of the NDL from January 13 to 22, 2016

The National Diet Library (NDL) offers training programs to Japanese Studies librarians living outside of Japan in order to further strengthen support for Japanese Studies conducted outside of Japan. Participation in this program enables librarians to enhance their expertise in acquiring and providing information on Japan as well as interacting with other participants, staff members from the NDL, and other related organizations.

Date From January 13 to 22, 2016
* For eight days, excluding Saturday and Sunday
Main venue Kansai-kan of the NDL
(8-1-3 Seikadai, Seika-cho, Soraku-gun, Kyoto 619-0287 Japan)
Qualifications Those who meet the following four conditions are eligible:
  1. Employed by a Japanese studies institution outside of Japan as a library staff member (Those who are employed by similar organizations may also apply)
  2. Fluent in Japanese
  3. Able to pay all costs of travel and accommodation
  4. Willing to share widely your experience and knowledge obtained through the training with others and to contribute to the enhancement of support for Japanese studies in your community
Availability About 10 people
Program content
  1. Lectures by NDL staff members
  2. Practical training at related organizations
  3. Lectures by experts
* All training is conducted in Japanese
Costs Although the program itself is provided free of charge, participants are expected to pay all costs of travel and accommodation.
Deadline for application Primary: 5 p.m. (Japan Standard Time) on September 30, 2015
Secondary: 5 p.m. (Japan Standard Time) on October 30, 2015
Space is limited, and applicants are encouraged to apply no later than the primary deadline to ensure consideration. If space is still available even after the primary deadline, we will continue to accept applications on a first-come-first-served basis until all spaces are filled or until October 30.

Participants who successfully complete the training program will each receive a certificate of completion.
