The 15th Mutual Visit Program between
the National Diet Library and the National Library of Korea
A delegation from the National Library of Korea (NLK) visited Japan during the period of September 4 to 11, 2012, for the 15th Mutual visit program between the National Diet Library (NDL) and the NLK. Since it started in 1997, the program has taken place alternately in Japan and Korea every year.

Headed by Ms. Hye-Yeong Oh, Director of the Bibliographic Control Division, this year’s delegation also consisted of the following two members: Ms. Su young Kwak, Librarian, Collection Management and Service Division, and Ms. Sunmi Kim, Librarian, Bibliographic Control Division.
The Opening Session was held in the Tokyo Main Library of the NDL. Staff members at the Kansai-kan of the NDL also participated using the TV conference system.

In the Opening Session, Ms. Oh briefly introduced the efforts of NLK to collect domestic publications exhaustively, create its bibliographic data systematically, enhance library services for individuals with disabilities, and build a network with the internal and international libraries. She also reported the future establishment of the National Library of Korea in Sejong, a special administrative district.
Ms. Lawler reported recent interesting activities of the NDL including starting new user services, institutionalizing the collection of such things as online publications, developing the Great East Japan Earthquake Archive, etc.

In Sessions 1 and 2, experts from both libraries reported on their recent activities and progress on each theme.

The delegation also had a discussion meeting with the staff members of the Bibliographic Control Division and Serials and Non-book Materials Division of the Acquisitions and Bibliography Department. After these sessions, the delegation visited the International Library of Children’s Literature.

<<Closing Session>>
From September 8 to 11, the delegation visited the Kansai-kan of the NDL and had a discussion meeting with staff members of the Asian Resources Division, Digital Library Division and Library Support Division. The whole program concluded with a Closing Session and the two libraries agreed to proceed with future cooperation.
