<Special Issue: Preservation Activities of the National Diet Library>
-Preface-
The National Diet Library (NDL) conducts preservation cooperation activities with Japanese and foreign libraries, based on experience and knowledge accumulated by preserving its own collections. The core activity is sending out information through training programs or events. This activity aims at spreading basic concepts and fundamental skills of preservation, and provides opportunities for the staff concerned to exchange information or to establish connections.
After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, the number of requests to hold workshops on disaster preparedness has increased, partly because the NDL has assisted salvaging activities. In this issue, we cover some training programs and salvaging activities, and introduce a part of the NDL’s recent preservation activities.
