More than 150,000 volumes are now available on the "Digital Library from the Meiji Era"

The National Diet Library digitizes books issued in the Meiji era (1868-1912) and Taisho era (1912-1926) from its holdings after copyright clearance and provides images of the text on the "Digital Library from the Meiji Era" website (in Japanese).

Edited by Kenchiku Shashin Ruiju Kanko-kai
(Koyosha, 1920-1943)

On August 25, 2009, about 7,800 volumes were added to the "Digital Library from the Meiji Era." The number of books added this time is about 1,300 volumes (about 1,000 titles) of the Meiji era and about 6,500 volumes (about 5,800 titles) of the Taisho era. About 70 volumes of "Kenchiku Shashin Ruiju," a series of construction photographs and drawings published from the Taisho to the early Showa era, are available (at present, only those published in the Taisho era). In addition, "Manatsu no yo no yume (A Midsummer Night´s Dream)" translated by Shoyo Tsubouchi (2009 marks the 150th anniversary of his birth) and "Meiji Jingu annai," a guidebook published in the year the Meiji Jingu Shrine was completed, are included. The list of these added materials is also available on the "Digital Library from the Meiji Era" website.
