The National Diet Library (NDL) recently released “Statistical Materials for Learning about JapanEon its website for people all over the world who want to learn about Japan through statistics. This English-language guide to statistical information about Japan is a useful tool especially for the non-Japanese-reader.

The guide introduces major statistical materials on Japan written in English, or in both Japanese and English, in the form of printed publications and Internet information. A bibliographical note is added to each item. As a rule, the statistics presented are linked to relevant Internet sites in English, including those available only in printed form. Please note that not all the statistics are accessible via the Internet. 

The guide consists of “Reference ToolsEfor searching for statistical data, “Long-term StatisticsEand “Comprehensive StatisticsE exhaustively covering all areas, “Summarized Statistics in Selected AreasE limited to certain categories, and a wide variety of “Primary Statistical Data.E 

The NDL will add new information as it is found and try to keep this guide as up-to-date as possible.
