Partial suspension of reader service

This is an abridged translation of the article of  the same title in the NDL Monthly Bulletin No. 487

In 2002, the International Library of Children's Literature (ILCL) will be fully open and the Kansai-kan (tentative name) will also open. Library holdings will be devided among the Tokyo Main Library, the Kansai-kan and the ILCL for better services. The Tokyo Main Library and its special materials rooms will also be reorganized. As a result, the Library and some special materials rooms will be closed and some materials will be temporarily unavailable.

(2) Unavailable materials

From April to September 2002, we will be moving materials from Tokyo to the Kansai-kan. The Kansai-kan will be open to the public on October 7, 2002.

Periodicals in western languages
Asian materials 
(Books, periodicals and newspapers in Chinese, Korean and other Asian languages)
* Some Asian materials such as basic reference books, periodicals and newspapers will continue to be available in the Tokyo Main Library

Materials unavailable from May 1 to October 6 
Science and technology materials
(Some technical reports, papers of academic societies and associations, standards, foreign patents, foreign dissertations, conference proceedings in western languages)
Research reports for the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture Grants-in-aid for Scientific Research 
Recorded academic literature

(3) Closure of the International Library of Children's Literature (ICLC) and unavailable materials

The ILCL will be fully open on May 5, 2002. For preparation of the opening, the ILCL will be closed from February 1 to May 4. Materials such as children's books, study books and picture-cards stocked in the Tokyo Main Library will be moved to the ILCL and will therefore be unavailable during this period.
