2012/1/25  Oral history of politics in Japan: interview with Aiichiro Fujiyama now released

On January 25(Wed), the National Diet Library released "Oral history of politics in Japan: interview with Aiichiro Fujiyama" at the Modern Japanese Political History Materials Room in the Tokyo Main Library.
Mr. Aiichiro Fujiyama(1897-1985), originally from the financial world, served as foreign minister and was involved in revising the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty in 1960 and exerted himself to restore diplomatic relations between Japan and China. This Recording was made in November and December 1981.
From 1961 to 1987, a total of ten persons have been recorded by NDL as "Oral history of politics" for the purpose of gathering comment on the behind-the-scenes facts and stories that had been unrevealed before.
Until now, nine of the recordings have been released and this is the last of the ten.

2012/1/25  Digital exhibition "Children's Books Going Overseas from Japan" (English version) now available

On January 18 (Wed), The International Library of Children's Literature (ILCL) released the digital exhibition "Children's Books Going Overseas from Japan" (English version). This digital exhibition is based on the catalogue of the exhibition "Children's Books Going Overseas from Japan" which was held in 2010 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the ILCL and the National Year of Reading.
The Japanese version of the digital exhibition was first released in 2010. Dealing with the subject of how translated Japanese children's books are published and spread in foreign countries, it attracted a high level of interest from overseas, which led to the production of this English version.
This exhibition introduces the countries and regions in which Japanese children's books have been translated, and what kind of changes have been made to illustrations and texts, etc., to fit their custom and culture, by displaying about 300 items, including translated Japanese children's books in over thirty countries and regions, and also their Japanese originals.

2012/1/6  About 265,000 digitized materials added to the digital archives of the NDL

On January 6, the National Diet Library started providing about 1,100 titles of newly-added digitized periodicals (about 265,000 volumes) within the NDL. In all, digitized contents provided inside the NDL are over 1.6 million items in total, including about 290,000 items available on the Internet. Titles and table of contents of the newly-added materials became also available in the digital archives of the NDL (Japanese) through the Internet.
