2016-8-17 Friday, November 11, 2016, International Policy Seminar: Family diversity -- From European experiences --

The National Diet Library is pleased to sponsor a seminar featuring a lecture by Prof. Dr. Martin Nettesheim, a specialist in Constitution, Administrative Law, EU Law and International Law.

Recently, experimental forms of support for same-sex couples have been spreading among local governments in Japan. While in Germany, same-sex marriage is not allowed, the Life Partnership System was introduced in 2001, which means that same-sex couples could register as civil legal unions. In this seminar, Prof. Dr. Martin Nettesheim will introduce the developments of the Life Partnership System and family diversity, as titled "The Life Partnership System and the Constitution of Germany (tentative title)". After the lecture, we will have a panel discussion with Japanese experts in civil law and constitution.
