2014-1-20 On January 21, Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries will be launched (for domestic libraries only).

On Tuesday, January 21, 2014, the National Diet Library (NDL) will launch the Digitized Contents Transmission Service for Libraries.

An amendment to the Copyright Law in 2012 allows the NDL to transmit digitized versions of out-of-print materials and other difficult-to-obtain items to libraries in Japan. After launch, this new service will make available to users at NDL-affiliated libraries a wide range of materials previously available only on the NDL premises.

Scope of available digitized items
Digitized versions of the NDL holdings that are out-of-print or otherwise difficult to obtain. About 1.31 million of items will be available with the launch of this service.
Libraries providing this service
This service is available at libraries subject to the Copyright Law Article 31 (1) (e.g. public libraries and university libraries), that apply for and receive authorization from the NDL. As of January 10, 2014, applications from 93 libraries have been submitted to the NDL.

The lists of available digitized items and libraries providing this service can be found on the following page:
