2012-10-4 Conservation work begins on local documents damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake

The National Diet Library's Preservation Division begins conservation work on old local documents of 17th-19th century held by the Rikuzentakata City Library in Iwate prefecture. They have been designated as prefectural cultural property and were damaged by the tsunami.
Over 100 volumes were sent to the Tokyo Main Library on October 1st. The whole work will be completed by the end of September 2014. Progress of the conservation project will be posted on the Facebook page (in Japanese) <http://www.facebook.com/yoshidakeshufuku>
