2012-8-24 Children's Day for Visiting Kasumigaseki was held in the Library

On August 8 and 9, as part of "Children's Day for Visiting Kasumigaseki" organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the National Diet Library held a program "Explore the biggest library in Japan" in the Tokyo Main Library.
36 groups including 81 children and accompanying adults were chosen by lot from the 188 groups of applicants. After visiting the stacks eight floors underground in the Annex to see a large quantity of materials and special treatments for long preservation, they took part in the two hands-on programs to experience work in the library. In the first program "Let's look the work of the library: experience of cataloging books," they tried to create a catalog with a computer. On the next day, in the program "Let's look at the book hospital," they learned how to preserve and conserve library materials and attempted to bind a Japanese-style book by themselves.
Some unique collections of the NDL such as miniature books and books in various forms were exhibited in the waiting room.
On August 10, library tours were arranged for those not selected.
