After visiting the stacks eight floors underground in the Annex to see a large quantity of materials and special treatments for long preservation, they took part in the two hands-on programs to experience work in the library. In the first program "Let's look the work of the library: experience of cataloging books," they tried to create a catalog with a computer. On the next day, in the program "Let's look at the book hospital," they learned how to preserve and conserve library materials and attempted to bind a Japanese-style book by themselves.
Some unique collections of the NDL such as miniature books and books in various forms were exhibited in the waiting room.
On August 10, library tours were arranged for those not selected.
