2010-6-4 Lecture meeting "Libraries and Reading in Germany and Europe"

On July 13 (Tue.) the National Diet Library will hold a lecture meeting “Libraries and Reading in Germany and Europe.” The speaker will be Ms. Barbara Lison from Germany. As 2010 is the National Year of Reading in Japan, Ms. Lison will talk about the initiatives of libraries in Europe, especially in Germany, for encouraging reading.

Ms. Lison served as the president of BID (Bibliothek und Information Deutschland), the national umbrella organization of German library associations and information associations, from 2006 to April 2010. Having also served as the vice- president of EBLIDA (European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations) until last year, and participated in several EU projects, she has a great deal of experience of library policies and promotions in Europe. She is the Director of the Bremen Public Library at present.

After the lecture, Ms. Lison will have a discussion with Dr. Makoto Nagao, the Librarian of the National Diet Library.
