2009-9-8 Children's Day for Visiting Kasumigaseki in the Library closed
On August 19 and 20, as part of "Children's Day for Visiting Kasumigaseki" under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, a program "Explore the Biggest Library in Japan" was held in the Tokyo Main Library. The participants had been chosen by lot and numbered 71 including children and accompanying adults. After visiting the underground stack rooms of the Annex to see how many materials are stored and various ways in which they are preserved, they participated in two programs that demonstrated the role of the library; "Be a librarian: experience of reference service" in which they answered questions modeled on library users' inquiries using dictionaries and "Let's look at the book hospital" to learn about the structure and preservation of books.
On August 21 and 24, study tours were arranged for those who had not been chosen by lot; 35 people participated.
